5 Tips to surviving University

Those of you have attended university or are still in attendance, have been told that university will be the greatest and toughest years of your life and this is absolutely true! We all want to finish uni with the best grades as possible but many of us also want to make to most out of the uni way of life, so I decided that I would give you some tips and advice on the things I’ve started doing to get the best of both worlds.

1: Attend all Classes

This is the most obvious one out the lot but since us students get given piles of work and self study, the best way to keep on top of this is to actually attend the timetabled classes! Being at these classes as well as any extra recommended classes when possible, is going to make studying and completing course work so much easier!

2. Try something new!

University is all about pushing ourselves and finding out who we are as people, trying something new by joining a society or club is a great way to do this! Whether you want to do something completely new (like I did with Cheerleading), or stick to something you already know and love, being involved with something outside of your classes is a sure fire way to meet new people in all stages of their uni careers and possibly make some friends for life! This also allows you to have a break from your course work to go to fundraising events and of course the odd party or two…

3. Use free time to your advantage.

If you are like me and have been given a ridiculous amount of “break” time between classes, instead of sitting in the cafe with friends or leaving campus, try heading to the library to do any self study that has been given, from readings to essay writing, getting it done while you are on campus allows access to all the resources and means that outside of uni hours you have more free time to blog or do whatever you want! Don’t forget that we all need a break though, getting the work done is great but make sure to have a break to relax too!

4. Remember that your exam results don’t define you!

I don’t test well and never have, during my high school career I was getting A’s and B’s all year to then fail the final exam something for that class I never expected, I came across this video and it’s one of the most inspirational things I’ve watched, remember that you will not be amazing at everything and as long as you do the best you can that’s all that matters!

5. Don’t be afraid to ask for help!

This point was reiterated to me time and time again during my first semester, uni can be a very stressful and daunting place for many, knowing who to talk to, where to go and how to get more help when needed is very comforting. During my first few weeks I was told all the people who would be around for helping out students who were struggling, we were all given a PAT which is a personal academic tutor, whom we can meet up with to discuss any problems we may face while at uni and are encouraged to use this opertunity. You may not need to ask for help but if you just feel stressed see if your uni offers any stress buster times for example we have therapy pets (dogs) who come to campus and allow us to play with them, hug them and pet them! It’s one of the best things I’ve been to!

These are my 5 tips for surviving university or even school!  Do you guys have any tips you would like to share? Or anything you do to keep on top of work! Let me know in the comments

(As always) Thanks for reading
